十五年的友誼 Fifteen Years of Friendship
William Choi 和我在十五年前，同於香港大學教育學院就讀本科時相識。在人生的高低起伏中維繫一段長久的友誼，同時一起成長，從來都不容易。
William Choi and I met 15 years ago as undergraduate students at the Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Maintaining a long-lasting friendship through life’s highs and lows while growing together is N.E.V.E.R E.A.S.Y!
今天，他已成為港大教育學院的助理教授，而我則成為了許多學生的私人補習老師。我們都在以各自的方式，為教育出一份力。
Today, he has become an Assistant Professor at HKU’s Faculty of Education, while I’ve become a private tutor for many students. We’re both contributing to the education sector.
我有些學生已入讀香港大學，有些成為了研究人員，我也經常把學生介紹給他認識。
Some of my students have been admitted to the University of Hong Kong, others have become researchers, and I often introduce my students to him.
重遊母校 Returning to My Alma Mater
我已許久沒有回到母校，很想親眼看看港大的最新面貌。儘管 William 公務繁忙，又要公幹和學術論壇接連不斷，他仍然特意抽出時間與我相聚——因為真正的朋友，總會為對方留出時間。
I hadn’t returned to my alma mater in a long time and wanted to see the latest developments at HKU. Despite William’s busy schedule with business trips and academic forums, he made time to meet me because true friends make time for each other.
這一次，他以學術人員的身份帶我參觀教育學院，格外有意義——因為我昔日的港大教授，如今都成了他的同事。我參觀了他的辦公室，整潔有序，充滿學術氣息。從細節可以看出，他對工作一絲不苟。那天在校園裡，不少學生主動向他打招呼，看見他的成就，我由衷感到驕傲。
This time, he gave me a tour of the Faculty of Education as an academic staff member, which was particularly meaningful since my former HKU professors are now his colleagues. I visited his office, which is neat, organised, and filled with an academic atmosphere. As you can see, he treats work meticulously. That day on campus, many of his students greeted him warmly. Seeing his achievements filled me with pride.
這是我在香港最真我、最自由、最快樂的時光。
This is the most real, free and happiest time in Hong Kong.

我必須特別感謝他在我申請牛津大學碩士時給予的支持。當我向他請教研究方向時，他從早到晚整整花了一天時間，與我反覆討論和完善想法，提供了無比珍貴的意見。當我收到牛津的錄取通知，他是我第一批告知的人之一。我至今心存深深的感激。
I must especially thank him for his support with my Oxford University master’s application. When I sought his research advice, he spent an entire day from day to night discussing and perfecting ideas with me, offering invaluable insights. 沉穩 / Calm — 遇到分歧時，他會以成熟的態度處理，嘗試理解不同觀點，再尋求解決方案。
When disagreements arise, he handles situations maturely through effective communication, tries to understand different perspectives before coming up with a solution.
這些，都是成為一名優秀教育工作者的重要條件。
These are all important criteria to become an educator.
教育的使命感 A Sense of Mission in Education
最後，談到指導博士生的挑戰時，我問他是什麼讓他堅持下去。他的答案簡單而有力：「使命感。」
Finally, when discussing the challenges of supervising PhD students, I asked what keeps him going. His answer is simple yet imposing: “A sense of mission.”
也許因為我們都從事教育工作，與一般職業略有不同，這份「使命感」時刻提醒著我們——即使面對壓力和挫折，仍然選擇繼續教下去。
Perhaps because we both work in education, a bit different from typical careers, this “sense of mission” reminds us why we continue teaching despite pressure and frustration.
