我由2025年4月開始為Jacob備考IELTS，為他全面提升英文閱讀、寫作、聆聽及口語能力。
From April 2025, I began coaching Jacob for IELTS, systematically strengthening his reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

2025年9月：UCAS Personal Statement 香港學生指導，2日完成初稿
September 2025: UCAS Personal Statement Guidance for Hong Kong students – First Draft in 2 Days
9月4日，我先了解Jacob的選科意向、過往相關的學科背景、學術成就，為Personal Statement做好準備，務求內容度身訂造，並指導Jacob如何撰寫Personal Statement。我承諾在3個工作日內完成初稿。我專門為香港學生提供UCAS Personal Statement指導，深明本地學生在文化背景及表達方式上的優勢與盲點。
On 4 September, I conducted an in-depth information-gathering session with Jacob, exploring his subject interests, academic background, and achievements so that I can ensure every word of the Personal Statement would be tailored precisely to him. I promised to deliver a first draft within 3 working days. 9月6日，初稿已完成，比承諾交付的日子還提早了一整天。

2025年10月至12月：調整方向，一日內重寫
October to December 2025: Change of Direction – Rewritten in One Day
10月初，學校出了Jacob的predicted grades。家長和學校商量後，決定調整選科方向，重新規劃Personal Statement的內容重點。
In early October, Jacob’s predicted grades were released. After discussions between his family and school, the decision was made to adjust his subject direction, requiring a complete rethink of the Personal Statement.
12月，確定選科方向後，學校要求Jacob在兩日內提交UCAS Personal Statement，時間極為緊迫。
In December, once the new direction was confirmed, the school required Jacob to submit his UCAS Personal Statement within two days. The pressure was on.
我非常上心，急他們所急，立即在一日之內，按照全新的選科方向，重新修改Personal Statement的重心和內容，速度驚人，一日內完成新的版本，確保Jacob能夠準時提交，不可錯失報大學的關鍵時刻。
I threw myself into it immediately. Within a single day, I rewrote and restructured the entire Personal Statement around his new subject direction, ensuring Jacob could submit on time and not miss this defining moment in his university journey.
2026年：成功獲UCL錄取
2026: UCL Offer Secured
Jacob成功獲得University College London錄取，將於2026年9月修讀BSc學位課程。
Jacob was successfully admitted to University College London and will begin his BSc degree programme in September 2026.
他當初的心願，是在倫敦讀大學，享受倫敦多姿多彩的生活。如今，Jacob正式成為英國的大學生了！

課堂以外的故事 Beyond the Classroom
2025年5月：坐錯車，來到倫敦 May 2025: Wrong Stop, Right City
Jacob從威爾斯搭車前往Coventry探望他的監護人，卻坐過了站，直接去了倫敦。
Jacob boarded a train from Wales heading to Coventry to visit his guardian and missed his stop entirely, ending up in London instead.
當時我剛好身在倫敦市中心，距離車站只有約20分鐘車程。我告訴他，如果需要幫忙，我可以過去找他。
I happened to be in central London at the time, about 20 minutes from where he was. I told him – if he needed anything, I would come to him.
這不是工作範圍以內的事，但對我來說是理所當然的。學生在外地遇到困難，我希望他知道有人在。
It was not part of my role. But it was never a question. When a student finds themselves in an unfamiliar situation far from home, I want them to know there is someone there.
2025年6月：紐約之行 June 2025: New York Calling
Jacob在6月去了紐約旅行。他一直很嚮往紐約，曾經說過想在紐約讀大學，感受那個城市的節奏和活力。
In June, Jacob travelled to New York, a city he had long been drawn to, once even considering it as a place to study.
上課以外，他也會跟我分享旅途上的趣事，說紐約有多好玩、有多精彩。這種師生之間的日常交流，是我最珍惜的部分之一。
Outside our sessions, he would share stories from the trip — how electric the city felt, how much he loved it. These everyday conversations between tutor and student are among the things I treasure most.
2025年7月：倫敦相聚 July 2025: London, Meet up
Jacob來到倫敦UCL暑期課程期間，我們在倫敦見了兩次面。
While Jacob was in London for UCL’s summer programme, we met up twice.
第一次去了一間希臘餐廳，品嚐了龍蝦汁焗飯，超級好吃！我們都是愛吃的人，談天說地，相談甚歡。
The first time, we went to a Greek restaurant and shared a lobster bisque rice — absolutely delicious. We are both food lovers, and the conversation was just as good as the meal.
第二次我們去吃中菜，滋味無窮，令人齒頰留香。
The second time, we went for Chinese food — equally wonderful, with flavours that lingered long after.
能夠在課堂以外與學生相聚，對我來說非常珍貴。這不只是師生關係，而是真正的連結。
Meeting a student outside of lessons is always meaningful to me. This is more than a tutor-student relationship. It is a genuine connection.
2025年11月：在香港與Jacob媽媽見面
November 2025: Meeting Jacob’s Mother in Hong Kong
我特意在香港與Jacob媽媽見面，深入了解家長的想法和期望，讓我能夠更全面地為Jacob提供學習支援。
I arranged to meet Jacob’s mother in Hong Kong specifically to understand her hopes and expectations, so I could support Jacob as fully as possible.
有時，男孩子礙於面子，未必懂得直接向家人表達自己的想法。我在Jacob和Jacob媽媽之間，也擔任了溝通橋樑的角色——鼓勵Jacob多體諒父母的心意，同時亦提醒Jacob媽媽，男孩子長大了，需要適度的空間和自由。
Sometimes, teenage boys find it difficult to express themselves openly to their parents. Between Jacob and his mother, I also took on the role of a quiet bridge: encouraging Jacob to appreciate his parents’ care, while gently reminding his mother that a young man growing up needs room to breathe and find his own way.

各大學要求不同，UCL的英文要求屬Level 2，一般接受IELTS Academic 6.5至7.0分，各細項不低於6.0分。建議提早向目標院校查詢具體要求及接受的英文成績種類。
Requirements vary by institution. UCL’s English language requirement is Level 2, typically accepting IELTS Academic scores of 6.5 to 7.0 with no component below 6.0. It is always advisable to check directly with your target institution well in advance regarding specific requirements and accepted qualifications.
Q: What does the UCAS application timeline look like, and when should a student start preparing their Personal Statement?

In addition to the Personal Statement, applicants typically need to provide academic transcripts, predicted grades, a reference letter from a teacher or school, and proof of English proficiency such as IELTS.
